How should I go about installing my internal DVD burner?

I have a case that is a little weird. Instead of having a solid piece of plastic where the cd comes out of (and where you push the button to open the drive) on the outside of the case, it has a button of its own. Without removing this, it is difficult to insert the DVD-R drive. I have thought about just popping the piece of plastic off of the front of the case, but then it wouldn’t really match the other CD-RW/DVD drive. Is there a better way to go about doing this?

I had the same problem adding a DVD/CD drive into my Sony case. There was a built-in button panel already there, and the new drive would butt into the panel. Mine wouldn’t just “pop out”, so I just took a narrow bladed hacksaw blade and sawed that particular panel out, and then mounted the drive. Granted, it doesn’t match the other CD drive, but I’m not entering the pc in a beauty contest, so I don’t care about the esthetics of the install. Good luck.

Yes, but you may need additional software to actually play/decode/encode the DVDs. Frequently, some software of this sort comes with the DVD burner, but if not there are a variety of programs that can be obtained to play DVD movies. Regular data can always be read from DVD burners, but in order to write to a DVD-R you will needed burning/editing software.

You need a copy such as clone dvd program to copy all kinds of dvds but for a movie you need another software for decoding such as DVD Region css, these are not free programs and need to be registered(you should pay), or you may search for free softwares

>Sunbeam PSU-COM780-BK-US 780W ATX 12V 2.3 Modular Active PFC Power Supply – OEM

Looks like a dodgy power supply — change this to an Antec Neo Eco or a Corsair CMPSU:

Change this to a Hyper 212 Plus, which costs the same and has better performance,

>Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM

Change this to a Samsung Spinpoint F3 which has better performance. The 7200.11 of Seagate drives were well known for having crappy firmware which caused the drive to fail after a predetermined amount of time. I’d do well to avoid the 7200.11 series.

You don’t need 8 GB of RAM.

—

Regarding that PSU — generic stuff like Coolmax, Sunbeam, Rosewill, avoid, they are dodgy power supplies that are generics which have been rebadged with different logos and brand names.

If your budget is strictly limited I recommend going with an Antec Neo eco series:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371031&cm_re=Antec_Neo_Eco-_-17-371-031-_-Product

The 650 watt Neo Eco is sufficient, and will even power 2 GTS 450 video cards.

Im assuming this is not for gaming, otherwise i would not get the 9500 i would get 260 or 280 if it were for gaming, do you really need 1TB of space? I have difficulties filling up 320GB… You may want to check the amp ratings of your psu, the Tuniq 550w is a very decent power supply with 50 amps on the 12v, $40 after rebate on newegg but im unfamiliar with which amps are used mainly on a non-gaming computer so your psu may be sufficient.

Seems sort of expensive, maybe if you could post the price for each individual part may be easier to find what is too expensive. (q6600+gtx280 rig is around 900 b4 mirs and 750 after mirs on newegg, thats without a moniter though…)

My computer resets itself when I play online games or burn a DVD. I Have 512MB RAM & 3.7GHz processor?

My computer randomly resets itself when I play some online games or view pages w/ alot of imagery or try to burn a DVD. What could cause it to do this? I have an ABIT AI7 motherboard, 512MB RAM, Pentium 4 processor, A/V component for TV, HP DVD burner w/ Lightscribe, Samsung CD burner and a 550 watt power supply in an XPleasure CPU tower. I’ve tried everything I can think of and desperately need suggestions. My virus protection says that there’s nothing there. I can’t function without a 100% working order computer. I have not done a BIOS update because it’s hard to find one for my motherboard and I don’t want to mess anything else up. I’m in school and need my CPU and burner to be working for powerpoint and other things but I can’t have it reseting on me at random times.
Best laptop for $4k or less?

I am wanting to buy a new laptop for my school semester, I’ve been saving up for a few weeks and I will have an amount really close to $4k, when I get paid next, I customized the m18x on alienware’s website and it came out to $3,700, and here are the specs:

Intel® Core™ i7 2820QM 2.3GHz (3.4GHz w/Turbo Boost, 8MB Cache)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (4DIMMS)
Dual 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 460M – NVIDIA® SLI® Enabled
256GB Solid State Drive SATA 3Gb/s
Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3×3 MIMO for Gaming & Video and Bluetooth 3.0
Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
18.4-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 WLED
Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio.
End Alienware specs.

So my question is…Is this the best computer that I can buy for this relative amount of money?
I know Sager also does customized laptops, as well as AVA Direct, and I wanted to know which had the best overall performance per dollar I guess. Because I know with Alienware a lot of the money goes into the computer image and the brand of alienware, and I don’t particularly care what the computer looks like much as its performance.

(Sidenote, I really prefer and SSD right now just because of the faster boot times, etc… but if another stat can get really boosted like the processors at the expense of using a 7200RPM HDD then I would make that sacrifice, otherwise I’d prefer to stick with SSD).

Thanks in advance to all who read this.
Jjjj…. thanx I didn’t know those companies customized laptops

You can make a better one if you build it yourself

Melissa this is Mr. Sir. I have installed burners into Pavilions before and although they may appear difficult they are not. If you currently have a cd rom installed all you have to do is unsrew the old optical drive slide it forward. If there is an obstacles then when you slide the opitcial drive forward it will show you where to remove any obstical, just remember remove it slowly. Well since you have installed other optical drives then I won’t go into the wiring and stuff like that. Best of luck to you.

BEST OFFER tinyurl.com Customer Reviews: “The good: – It’s very flexible. The ability to record to 8GB internal or a 8GB flash card (“Memory Stick Pro Duo”) is excellent. No moving parts, so the battery lasts forever (or at least a good long time). – Picture quality great in good lighting. – You can record to the memory or card, and then use the camera to burn to a mini-DVD only those clips you want — even at your mother-in-law’s house (in the same format as you recorded). – You can record everything in HD, transfer the files to a PC, and then burn them to a full size DVD in either HD (in AVHCD format to play on a BluRay player) or SD (standard definition to play on a normal DVD player). The not perfect: – Low light performance gets grainy pretty quickly. It works fine — just not a wonderful picture. – The video editing software that comes with the camera is very basic, too. No ability to create transitions between scenes or any other expected niceties of a movie-making package. I’m using an old copy of SONIC DigitalMedia Plus to make DVD’s from the files — works great for SD recording (the folks I sent DVD’s to don’t have BluRay). – The touch screen is a little small — you get used to it. All in all — great product — would buy it again.” “I’ve had the HDR-UX20 for about 2 weeks now and have used it to record my sons football games and daughters volleyball games. I record the games to an 8GB duo pro memory stick at SP HQ quality and have been satisfied with the …

That motherboard and the cpu you have selected are ***NOT COMPATIBLE***. The cpu is 1156 socket, the motherboard is 1366, they must have the same socket. The 1156 motherboards are setup for dual channel memory so buy your ram in sticks of 2 (2x4gb or 2x2gb or 4x2gb or 4x4gb), 1366 motherboards are triple channel so then buy in 3s. Why not upgrade to 1tb hdd for only a few bucks more? I would shoot for a psu brand like corsair. The case would be fine but I can tell you the antec 300 is a great case. The water cooling is kind of overkill unless you plan on some overclocking, even then something like the coolermaster hyper212+ would be great and save you $80. In fact just by swapping out the cooler and ram you could get the i7-950 for about the same price. It’s looking like your budget is around $1,200? For that cost go i7, 4core hyperthreading better than 2core hyperthreading.

Maybe check this out, this is similar to what I just built and will be a better all around pc than what you selected for around the same price. I just think that at the budget you are on you might as well get a stronger processor:

Compatible yes. I would suggest this power supply instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139009 . Yes your 600W is more than enough for your card and other parts but when it comes time to go XFire you are going to want more than 600W to power 2 factory overclocked 6950s and everything else including your CPU that is probably going to be overclocked. In addition to the overclock you are probably going to flash these to 6970s which is going to cause an even bigger power drain. There is a BIOS change that I have heard about that allows the 6950 to be unlocked to a 6970 but you need to be 100% sure you know what you are doing. Not even 99.9% will be enough. 1 small error can turn then into REALLY expensive paper weights. The rest of the parts, CPU cooler and the case looks good.
