Your Questions About Internal Dvd Burners Ide

Lizzie asks…

Anyone know what is a ” IDE # 1″ error?

I have a Toshiba a45-s130 laptop that I recently upgraded to a internal dvd burner. After the instal started to recieve a “IDE #1″ error code. The drive is fully fuctional until this code appears then it stops working all together. Does anyone know if there is some kind of reset switch and if so where is it located. I could really use some help it is so annoying.

Your hardrive came loose. IDE #1 is the cable that connects to ur harddrive. Easy fix, just plug it back in.

Maria asks…

Can I use an IDE HD and an optical IDE drive in a SATA computer?

Hi
I have a Dell Dimension 9200 whose motherboard (DXP061 series) is based on the Intel P965 chipset and there are no IDE connectors on it as the IDE interface is not supported by the chipset (to my knowledge anyway). I have a SATA HD and a SATA optical drive in the machine.

However, I so happen to have a perfectly good Internal IDE hard disk drive (250 GB) and an equally good Internal IDE optical drive (LG brand DVD+/-RW burner) that I would like to use in my computer. This way, I could have 2 internal hard disk drives and 2 CD/DVD burners inside the machine.

Is there some type of PCI internal card that could accomodate the connection of these two devices ?

If so, could you tell me how they are called so that I can look for them on the internet ?

Also, are there any brand better than others (assuming such cards exist). Any chipset better than others on these cards ?

Would that be too much to connect 2 devices to the same card ? Could the card overheat ?

Thank You

Michael asks…

How can I connect my internal sony dvd+/-R?

I don’t want to use IDE cables, if I don’t have to. What else can I use to connect it?
I just bought it from newegg.com and I didn’t recieve any instructions, any cables, any software, just a box full of styrofoam popcorn and the drive. For whatever reason, I was an idiot and bought OEM…I just overlooked it. I don’t guess it’s a huge mistake to do so on a DVD-Burner, it’s my first build and I would like some instruction (Sony Optiarc, 18x DVD+/-R).

Well you don’t have much choice in the cable you use, if the drive is an IDE drive, you have to use an IDE cable, plain and simple. If its an SATA burner, you have to use an SATA cable. Now as for what type of IDE cable, if you don’t like the plain ribbon kind you can buy a rounded one like this one:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812104038
