Yeah, all of those parts will work fine. Mobo and cpu are both am3, mobo supports the ddr3 1333, 550w is enough for those parts, you’ll have all the cords you need.

Don’t forget about the OS. Don’t get 4 gigs of memory if you have a 32 bit system because then it doesn’t even use all of it. I recomend 2 gig for 32bit and 4 gig for 64 bit. If you want to save money, I would get 2 gig of memory and a 32 bit OS system because most programs I use aren’t even 64 bit compatible and the difference between 2 gig and 4 gig probably wouldnt even affect my video games or opening files. Also on 64 bit, you have 2 program files folders, and thats kind of anoying, but its strongly recomended you don’t delete one of them, because it seperates the 32 bit from 64 bit programs. But anyway, to save money, i greatly recomend you go 2gig. Btw go with g-skill, they are a good brand and they are almost the cheapest for ram.

If you want to play your games on the tv via hdmi, the 5830 can do that. The gtx 460 is a good reccomendation, it performs much better and the cost isn’t much different. BUT if you get the gtx 460, bump up your PSU wattage to a minimum of continueous 600w.

So anyway, the things i would change are 2gig gskill, gtx 460 and a higher psu wattage

remember not to rush! Think over your decision and do lots of research before buying!

Mary asks…

Building a gaming PC, do I need a heatsink?

Hello everyone. I am building a PC as a late christmas present to myself, here are the details:

-MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

-CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7

-AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX

-G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM

-Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

-ASUS M4N98TD EVO AM3 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

-LITE-ON Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA CD/DVD Burner – Bulk – OEM

I am putting them all in this case:

-Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, comes with Three Fans-1x Front Blue LED 120mm Fan, 1x Top 140mm Fan, 1x Rear 120mm Fan, option Fans-2x Side 120mm Fan.

Now the questing I just thought of last night, is do I need a heatsink, having a 650w PSWU?

Any other pieces of advice on parts/brands/etc is welcomed!

Thanks in advance.

admin answers:

No, if your want your CPU to burn out within seconds….

I would recommend a heatsink/fan (HSF) other than stock. I use this one for my overclocked Core i7, works great. Temps idle in the low 30s
